Dear Friends,

I was Executive Director of the Institute for Burn Medicine for San Diego and Imperial Counties when we lived in California. Besides raising the money to establish a Burn Treatment Center at the University Hospital there, I conducted extensive public education campaigns in Burn Prevention.

A friend recently sent me the attached short video – and like an old fire-horse I heard the bell ring and am rushing to send this excellent prevention piece to each of you. It is well worth watching! And it could save your life.

This is very stunning – please read first and then watch the very short clip.

I never realized that a wet dishcloth could be a one size fits all lid to cover a fire in a pan!

This is a dramatic video (30-second, very short) about how to deal with a common kitchen fire …oil in a frying pan. Read the following Introduction, then watch the show ….It’s a real eye-opener!!

At the Fire Fighting Training school they would demonstrate this with a deep fat fryer set on the fire field. An instructor would don a fire suit and using an 8 oz cup at the end of a 10-foot pole toss water onto the grease fire.

The results got the attention of the students. The water, being heavier than oil, sinks to the bottom where it instantly becomes superheated.

The explosive force of the steam blows the burning oil up and out. On the open field, it became a thirty-foot high fireball that resembled a nuclear blast.

Inside the confines of a kitchen, the fireball hits the ceiling and fills the entire room. Also, do not throw sugar or flour on a grease fire. One cup of either creates the explosive force of two sticks of dynamite.

This is a powerful message—-watch the video and don’t forget what you see.

Tell your whole family about this video. Or better yet, send this to them.

Which Pots & Pans Should I Buy?

There are so many different kinds of cooks that it would be impossible to get all the different levels of regular or non stick performances for all of them. We at House Of Pans chose to go for good performance, durability and the biggest bang for your buck. These pots and pans are more affordable and if used properly will last for years. There are high performance non stick cookware for more professional or high pressure cooking that are excellent but very costly.

For us, we opted to have a beautiful matching set of pots & pans with good performance, good durability and affordable. There are ways of working with them that will make wonderful food for many years. Using all plastic utensils is one of the main rules for using nonstick surfaces. Never stacking your pans one inside of the other is another one. Never clean them with anything except a scouring sponge and detergent. Also, as with any kind of pot or pan, keep their bottom surfaces clean at all times. This is very helpful on glass top stoves no to mention the pan itself.

If I were to find it necessary to have a high performance pot or pan I would add to my collection a couple of stainless steel or cast iron pieces. It seems that all of us average people do not go into complex gourmet recipes calling for a high performing pot or pan often enough justify spending a lot of money. Having a wonderful set of cookware rated very good quality and performance with the addition, if needed, of a high performance pan or two would be less expensive and makes a lot of sense to me.

My wife and I have been cooking in our Italian Restaurant for so many years that we have become very fond of all our pots & pans and cutlery also. We learned how to take care of them because they were so very expensive. My wife and I now cook just about everything with our non stick pots & pans at home, the kinds of which is in our site, and they look and work beautifully after 4 years.

It would be interesting to hear your points of views or comments about this.
